Monkey Baby Shower

Geoff’s brother and his wife are having their first baby in February.  They’ve been married almost 13 years so I cannot wait til the baby gets here and they go into complete and utter shock.  hee hee.

The shower for baby boy Rex was on Saturday and I found out the week before that I would be doing the decorations.  So I tried to throw something together rather quickly and on a pretty limited budget.  I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with myself!!  The room was a small party room at the local community centre so didn’t have much ambiance but we made it work!

The baby’s room is done in a monkey theme so we went with the same theme for the shower as well.  I found the cutest ever monkey decorations from Parties by Hardie.  I purchased a pdf file through her etsy shop and it had 70 pages of the most adorable decorations to print off and put together.  I also watched a bunch of Youtube videos on how to make pom pom’s.  I didn’t find any one video that seemed to work so used bits and pieces from a few.  Once I got the hang of it they took about 15 minutes each to make.  And for each package of Dollarama tissue paper I got 4 pom’s.  Then Sage and I spent ages putting together paper chains.  That was a huge flashback to my childhood.

I had a friend (thanks Kendra!) pick this monkey (which is actually a garbage can) up for me at Target and then  I begged, borrowed and stole all the other monkeys I could find for the table centerpieces.

And when I ran out of monkeys I used bananas.  Ha!  The greenery in the vases (which were left over Ikea ones from our wedding) are branches that I sent Geoff out into the backyard to cut.

Wrapped the water bottles and made napkin rings!  The frames at each centerpiece are from Dollarama and the printouts inside are from here.  The coordinating pieces from that line are super cute too but just didn’t have the cartoon monkey look that I wanted to go for.

The Mommy-to-Be’s table.

My pom pom’s!  I am seriously so in love with these things that it’s ridiculous.  Brought them home to hang in Jasper’s room.

Made party hats for the 2 little girl’s that were invited.

The Mommy-to-Be modelling the super embarrassing hat Sage wanted to make her.

Sage helping open presents.

Now that’s a hat!

And that was that.  Now I’m exhausted.  And all crafted out.

Purchases

This book just arrived at our house a few minutes ago.  Mister Dog by Margaret Wise Brown.  I was so excited when I spotted it while browsing Chapters a few weeks ago.  It was my very favourite book as a kid…though now as an adult I find it incredibly strange that a kid’s book features an animal smoking a pipe! ha ha.

Can’t wait til Sage gets home and I can read it to her.  She’s much more interested in chapter books lately but I know that because I had this book as a kid she’ll think it’s cool.

I can remember staring at this picture for hours, imagining what would be in each room.  I thought this was the coolest house ever!

Embrace the Camera Thursday

One of the rare photos of Geoff and I together.  Just us.  No kids!  Must have been a dream.  Ha!  Nope..we went out for dinner just the two of us for the first time in almost a year.  Our 8th anniversary was on December 7th so we were celebrating.

We couldn’t have picked a better background could we?  Gotta love a parking lot photo.  I am so loving taking photos with my iPod Touch that Geoff bought me…ok so I bought it and then told Geoff that he had.

Go here for info about what Embrace the Camera is.

Embrace the Camera Thursday

We were actually ready for the meeting early last Sunday so I had Geoff snap a picture of me with the kids before we left.  And about 5 minutes after this was taken my necklace fell apart.  I’m so upset…I’ve only worn it 3 times!!

I realized that I’m a few days late with Jasper’s 15 month update.  Here’s what he’s been into lately.

Throws all of his toys out of his play area.  All the time.
Licks the hinges on the outside door.  All the time.
Still loves the Duplo Lego.  Can fit pieces together now.
Never stops eating.  If he can see food he yells until he gets a piece.
Loves having stories read to him.  Hands me a book when I’m sitting on the floor with him and turns around and backs his bum onto my lap.
Starting to sing into Sage’s Hannah Montana microphone.
Still sleeps from 6pm to 7am.
Likes to be chased.
Runs like crazy in the opposite direction when he sees me coming to wipe his nose.
Desperately wants to try what is in our coffee cups!
Says Sage!
Loves playing in his crib.  Never wants to get out when he wakes up from his naps.  So I sit on the floor and we throw toys at each other for a bit.
Loves watching Handy Manny when Sage gets home from school.
Is a homebody.  Gets very out of sorts when we go away overnight or over to friends houses for a meal.
Loves dancing.
Sticks his finger up his nose when we ask him where it is.
Is getting better at giving kisses.  Is a stubborn little bugger.
Waves bye when he feels like it.
